I went with the present gen.

None of those gens are even slightly interesting ..the new one does look nice tho IMO.

Facelifted 5th gen, because 3.5 with 6MT. I nearly traded in my ‘99 4th gen for one.

(5th gen started with MY2000 btw)

Oh this is close because I really the new model in that dark blue and I always loved the facelifted 6th gen

Even though the 5th gen is more preformance and can be haven with a manual, the current gen is the only gen that doesnt look like a bland generic japanese car.

Well you DD an Altima, am I correct? The sixth gen is probably the same thing just bigger and more luxurious, but also more unwieldy and harder to maneuver. Just some food for thought. The fifth and sixth had stick shifts, though, if that’s any consolation.

Thanks, fixed now. Yeah, that was (as I remarked above) probably the last instance where the Maxima actually almost resembled a “four door sports car”, if that sports car happened to be the 3rd gen Eclipse.

Good choice, my grandma used to have one and it was a lovely car until she rear-ended an Astro with it getting on the throttle a little too quickly off a stop-light. Then she bought a ‘10 Civic and complained about the lack of power...

But hey, bland Japanese cars are sometimes the best Japanese cars!

Agree on two points, although I’m still not a huge fan of the pinched C pillar. It looks like the designer’s pen ran away or something...

I love bland japanese cars. I love japanese cars. But something about the first few altimas is more “camry” bland than SC or Lexus LS “bland”

I guess by japanese I meant, American-Japanese bland. Japanese Japanese bland is best japanese bland

Ah, I get you now. Yeah, they kind of exude a ‘90s GM sort of bland but you can’t blame them, they were aimed at being sold to Americans after all. I hear they drove pretty well despite being beige as all fuck so if you ever need a Camry-esque type of undercover transportation a early 2000's Maxima is the way to go. The new one looks the best of most of Nissan’s line-up with the exception being the pinched C pillar which I still dislike and I think looks unfinished.

Technically you excluded the 5.5 gen (2002-2003) which included the VQ35 engine as standard as well as a few other things. That’s my vote!

Well that’s my favorite too! It falls under fifth gen facelift though, otherwise there would be far too many options to choose from! You could even get those with a stick, and I think they looked the best as well.

7th gen is best because more interesting + less ugly

I agree on its looks and I hear the interior was practically Infinitiesque but do keep in mind it can only be had with a CVT, although as mainly a highway cruiser that shouldn't be too big an issue.

Yeah, a definite low even in terms of Maximas, although the new one is a bit overstyled from the rear.

I do too except for the C pillar...they tried to have the ‘squashed pillar’ motif but took it too far and it ended up looking like the designer’s Sharpie ran away...

Eighth Generation, because radically good looks!

At first I didn’t know what to choose.

I still dislike the 6th gen, get bored by the 7th gen and appreciate the concept behind the 8th gen; but think it’s a tad too over-styled.

But I did more research on the 5th gen, and found it could be had with a VQ engine and manual, so I like it. It gets my vote.

Kinja'd!!!

It can also be had in JDM Nissan Celfiro guise.

Just noticed the rear bears resemblance to the long forgotten Mazda Xedos 9 - but that’s a good thing.

Kinja'd!!!

Random sidenote, I love the Xedos range - especially the Xedos 6 which I have personal experience with.

Agreed, my grandmother used to have a 5.5 gen VQ (no stick though) and it sounded and went better than any beige sedan had a right to! We did get the JDM Cefiro here as the Infiniti I30/35 although in my opinion it was slightly more bland-looking than the gawping maw of the Maxima...

Kinja'd!!!

And indeed, the Millenia was an awesome saloon! Don’t forget their state-of-the-art Miller cycle engine as well! Crazy ‘90s Mazda stuff ;)
